Brass Bandbook (Intermediate)

GRADE: 6-8
SUBJECT: Band
GENRE: Early Brass Band, Contemporary Brass Band, Traditional Brass Band
TOPIC: Sheet Music
DISCIPLINE: Harmonizing Instruments

DESCRIPTION

The Preservation Hall Foundation’s Brass Bandbook for intermediate learners is designed for musicians with some experience and comfort with their instrument. The arrangements are written with flexibility to represent a traditional New Orleans jazz band or a New Orleans-style brass band, with a few nontraditional instrument additions. Only one horn is needed per part and ensembles can add or swap instruments as needed.

BRASS BANDBOOK ORIGINS

This essential collection from the New Orleans brass band repertoire is a derivative of the Advanced Brass Bandbook, written and composed by Mark Braud. The Brass Bandbook transcriptions are a favorite resource among educators and musicians and are intended to increase access to younger audiences, as well as various abilities.

SONG SELECTIONS

On the pages linked below, reference materials including scores and individual instrumental parts for each song are downloadable and free to use as long as credit is given to Preservation Hall Foundation on any programs or written materials promoting the performances. Some songs may be accompanied by a lesson plan containing additional song background information, resources, and media.
